ENDESA AND UTE IM3-GABITEL OFFSET THEIR CARBON FOOTPRINT IN HUELVA WITH THE PLANTING OF ALMOST 300 TREES IN LUCENA DEL PUERTO

Huelva, November 12, 2020 – Endesa and the UTE Andalucía Occidental, formed by Gabitel Ingenieros and Ingenieros Emetres, have carried out the planting of approximately 300 specimens of cork oaks and carob trees in the municipality of Lucena del Puerto (Huelva) for this form, contribute to the compensation of their carbon footprint, within the commitment of these companies to sustainability.

Gabitel Ingenieros and Ingenieros Emetres have been, since 2012, the successful tenderers in UTE, of the Technical Assistance Service in Engineering of the Medium and Low Voltage Network of the E-distribution network in the provinces of Huelva, Seville and Badajoz, and more recently, since 2016, the scope was extended to the provinces of Cádiz and Córdoba.

This initiative responds to the commitment of Endesa and its contractor companies in the fight against Climate Change and in promoting the Sustainable Development Goals, by offsetting the carbon footprint through the planting of trees of native species, such as cork oaks and carob trees, from the Sierra Norte nursery, from Villanueva del Rio and Minas (Seville). The planting of these trees will contribute to the reforestation and densification of an approximate area of 10 hectares. With this action, it will be possible to compensate around 822 tons of Co2 emitted into the atmosphere during the term of the contract.

The head of E-distribution in the province of Huelva, Javier Arrayás, highlighted “the company’s commitment to sustainability, which extends to our suppliers and which in Huelva has an emblematic example in the ‘Endesa Forest’, by virtue of of which forest restoration work was carried out in 40 hectares of those affected by the fire around Doñana in 2017 ”.

For his part, the Manager of the UTE IM3-GABITEL, Rodrigo Delgado, has indicated that “our companies are 100% involved in the objectives of sustainability and reduction of the carbon footprint, for that reason we have wanted to go beyond the fulfillment of our obligation as awardees, giving visibility to this action, which we hope can serve as an example and inspiration for other organizations ”.

Endesa Doñana Forest

Endesa, in its commitment to fight against climate change, contributes in a practical way to the mitigation of emissions to the environment with a pioneering project called “Endesa Forest”. With this initiative, the company is committed to carrying out the forest restoration of degraded and burned land in the Iberian Peninsula by means of direct seeding techniques and the planting of native forest species.

In the case of the Endesa Doñana Forest, after the forest fire that the National Park suffered in the spring of 2017, Endesa reforested 40 hectares of the park, which allow the absorption of 3,606 tons of C02 into the atmosphere.

The Endesa Forest in Doñana has a duration of 40 years and is being carried out in two areas previously selected with the Junta de Andalucía. The first is the “Arroyo de la Comba” area, where 6 hectares have been reforested and 2,796 trees of the species of Alcornoque, Sauce, Piruétano and Madroño will be planted; and the second, that of the “Tres Rayas” that occupies 34 hectares with the planting of 15,444 trees of the species of Alcornoque, Acebuche, Madroño and Mirto.

The UTE IM3-GABITEL currently has a workforce of approximately 160 workers distributed throughout Andalusia and Extremadura, of which approximately 50 work in the province of Huelva through the Technical Assistance contract in Medium and Low Voltage Network Engineering of the E-DISTRIBUTION network.
